Passover

It's all about the blood and the cross - Jesus Christ.

And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
                                          Luke 22:19-20 ESV

Jesus did it all for me.  Every requirement of the law necessary for my acceptance and adoption in the family of God, He fulfilled.  He carried out our Father's plan down to every last detail. Jesus did it for me.

And He did it for you.

The body of Christ was punched, slapped, pierced, and whipped.  He was completely broken physically without breaking a bone. Jesus was tortured to death.

Why would anyone endure such a horrible attack when they have the power to stop it all?

Because the only way for our sins to be forgiven is through blood.  Passover is Passover because of the blood.  On the night of the Passover, Moses was instructed by God to have the children of Israel place blood on the doorposts and lintel.  This blood prevented their firstborn from being killed in the last plague God sent against Pharaoh.

Before Moses and the Israelites entered into the promise land, God gave them laws to live by.  Many of the laws concerned the sacrificing of bulls and goats to cover and make atonement for their sin.  These rituals were repeatedly offered and given because the blood of an animal can fully pay the price of human sin.  Only the blood of a human could atone for human sin.

The problem with this is that one must be sinless in order to be the sacrifice.  There was not one single person who could do this.  Oh there were many good men in the Bible but none of them were sinless.  David committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed.  Solomon was consumed by pride.  Moses committed murder. Aaron made a gold calf for the people to worship.

No one was good enough to be the sacrifice for human sin.

So God sent Jesus.

Jesus came to earth as a human being.  He lived as a man. Was tempted as man. And He died as a man.  He was still fully God but He humbled Himself to live in a human body, subject to human needs and desires.  And He lived subject to the physical abilities of a person on earth.  He did all this without sinning.

Jesus lived in every way a man lives and yet He did not sin.  His sinless nature alone qualifies Him to be the sacrifice for our sins.  His blood can and does cover all of our sin.  Because Jesus was a man and is God, His blood and His blood alone has the power and ability to make full atonement for our sin.

The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the perfect picture of God's love and grace poured out on man.  Jesus took the punishment for all of my sins. He took the punishment for all of your sins.  When we accept what He did for us and receive God's forgiveness, the Bible says we are made faultless and blameless in the eyes of God.

The blood of Jesus causes the wrath of God ignited by our sin to Passover us because He chose to die so that we may live.
